The Best Water Flossers in 2021: Post-Lockdown Life UK Edition [Updated]

Louise Stamford, Editor

We’ve investiagted a fairly recent trend of health minded customers and delved into the world of water flossing. The results are clinically proven – Water Flossing is up to 50% more effective than string floss. Sounds a fantastic way to keep your teeth in good shape.

The only downside is that some of the water flossers, especially the cheaper ones are fairly useless. In fact, we tested models that were frankly no better than using a tap, while others actually inflicted pain in their attempt to manipulate key pressure points on the teeth. We also came across flossers that worked for a while, but then simply gave up the ghost. Thankfully, we’ve put together the top 5 models you can order online today.

Where to buy the Healthline Waterpulse in the UK

The best water flosser for ease of use, effectiveness and price point come from a brand that has only been around for a few years in the UK. But don’t let that scare you off, as this luxury water flossing device is easily one of the best we have ever tested. It provided like for like performance against machines costing three times as much, proving you don’t have to pay silly prices to get an amazing experience, similar to a dentist from the comfort of your own home.

So what makes the Healthline Waterpulse the best all around water flosser?

The best water floss for home use, period. The Waterpulse was designed from the ground up to be the most comfortable and easy to use flossing device for the home.  The Healthline Waterpulse is ergonomically designed for maximum comfort. It offers an incredible water pulse of between 1400-1800 times per minute which helps remove 99.99% of food residue hidden deep within dental cracks and gums, which traditional toothbrushes and flosses simply cannot reach.  This is all done whilst soothing our gums, instead of inflicting pain like many of the others we tested.  Simply outstanding.

Adjustable Flossing intensity. Adjust your massage intensity to your individual preference, giving you a unique personal flossing experience. Normal, soft and pulse.  We’d recommend using soft to begin with as everyones different.  That being said, even on the strongest setting of pulse, we were inspired  by how the waterpulse manages to deep clean without any of the discomfort involved with many other brands.

Taking care of your Teeth. Dental hygeine is an important part of life.  If you think about how much you use your mouth and teeth each day, it’s imperative to keep everything in the best working order.  Water flossing may be fairly new but it’s most certainly here to stay, once you try it there’s no going back – our mouths have never felt so fresh and clean.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Healthline is now available with £50 off this February (while stocks last)  Healthline have knocked £50 off their normal price of £99.99 bringing the waterpulse to just £49.99 at the time of writing.

UK-based customer support. We have been continuously disappointed with luxury foot massagers in the past, even from dental giants like Oral B. Part of that disappointment comes with poor or absent customer service. We tested Healthline on several occasions with questions and every time received proper replies within an hour. That demonstrates commitment to the UK market and contributes greatly to our award of Editor’s Pick.

3. Waterpik Cordless: Home water flossing unit that lives up to the Waterpik name.  £55.00 at

3. Philips Sonicare AirFloss: A great device from a big brand.  £79.99 at

Waterpik Cordless Water Floss WP462: Solid performer £55 at

Where to buy the Waterpik Cordless in the UK

The easy and more effective way to floss, the Waterpik Water Flosser is great for anyone with braces, implants, crowns, bridges or periodontal pockets. The Cordless Plus features a dual pressure control system, ergonomic design with non-slip grip and easy to fill water reservoir with 45 seconds of flossing capacity.  While not quite as powerful as Healthlines Waterpulse, it was a brilliant alternative.

Why the Waterpik Cordless makes the list of the best water flossers in the UK

Good overall quality from trusted brand. Waterpik have been in the business for a some time now and produce some fantastic oral hygeine equipment you can find.  The Waterpik cordless is a great home water flossing unit but we found the device a little complicated to setup, given it has so many options.

Excellent marks for comfort. The flossing unit gives a fantastic finish and really does deep clean all the places no toothbrush can reach. A lot of research and development has clearly gone into this device, we would of liked to of seen a little more power from the pulse mode, the higher power can really help flush out some of the hard to reach places and for customers who use any form a brace.

Can be overwhelmining to setup. There’s no doubt this device has the most settings and options, and some people will love this.  The way they have all been implemented can feel overwhelming to set the device up and how you like it.  Sometimes in our opinion, simpler can be better.

Philips Sonicare AirFloss Power Flosser: Pricey but excellent – £79.99 at

Our Rating:

Where to buy the Sonicare AirFloss in the UK

The Philips Sonicare AirFloss supports the use of effective brushing by blasting away bits of trapped food and plaque that can build up between the teeth. It’s often this trapped food that can cause bad breath, gum disease and even decay. Making AirFloss part of your daily dental care routine will help keep your mouth fresh and your teeth healthy.

Why Sonicare AirFloss gets our approval for the home

Quick performance. With the AirFloss, cleaning your entire mouth takes just 30 seconds. Simply press the button once for a single burst, then move and repeat. To use the auto-burst feature, hold down the button and move the guidance tip from space to space. It will automatically burst every second

Easy to use. After a quick read of their quick start guide, you’ll know exactly what to do and how you’ll want to enjoy your water floss.  We feel ease of use is an important feature customers should be looking for, and Sonicare gets this point just right.

Built for home use.  AirFloss is a device built from the ground up to provide customers at home a desntist like floss.  Easy to setup with a good flossing technique with various settings.  A big name in this space and so far we’ve been impressed with this device.  We can’t help but feel you’re paying for the brand name rather than the device.

Runners-up: Best Water Flossers

There are many, many home based water flossers in the UK market. And while we attempt to test as many as possible for our readers, some units simply don’t make the cut. Here’s a quick peek at devices that didn’t make the list.

Panasonic EW1611 Oral Irrigator – £74.99 at

Our Rating:

The Panasonic EW1611 uses sophisticated Ultrasonic Technology and the new nozzle shape increases the speed of water flow and generates micro-bubbles. When these bubbles burst, they create shock waves which removes food debris from the teeth.  We found the unit difficult to setup and hard to understand.

Zuukoo Rechargeable Oral Irrigator – £21.99 at

Our Rating:

The cheapest device on our list – if you’re on a budget it may be a worthwhile choice and comes with plenty of different nozzles which is great for the price.  We found the unit to be underpowered and the customer support sketchy at best.  This has been popular on Amazon though, so your milage may vary.
